New Mexico First Awarded Daniels Fund Grant
Grant will help establish new program for teens
ALBUQUERQUE, NM, June 4, 2007 New Mexico First has received a $30,000 Daniels Fund grant to support its Tomorrow's Leaders Program. Tomorrow's Leaders will teach New Mexico high school students about civic engagement at the local level. The program will be launched by New Mexico First this fall.
Tomorrow's Leaders will educate teens on planning and facilitating town hall meetings that will result in recommendations for local leaders. Tomorrow's Leaders members, with support from their adult and youth mentors, will present these recommendations to local officials at city council hearings, county commission meetings, or school board meetings. Each group will also send at least two youth delegates to New Mexico First's annual statewide town hall.
The Daniels Fund operates the Daniels Fund Scholarship Program and the Daniels Fund Grants Program in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. The Fund was established in 1997 by Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television known for his kindness and generosity to those in need.
