700 Gather to Celebrate Senator Domenici’s Legacy

Albuquerque, NM, June 30, 2008 -- Over 700 friends, family and constituents of Senator Pete Domenici gathered on Saturday, June 30, to celebrate his life of service to the State of New Mexico.  In a bi-partisan program filled with children, humor, music, presentations, and video clips of local community organizations and businesses, the Senator applauded, laughed and waved from his mezzanine seat at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

Master of Ceremonies Sam Donaldson, news veteran and New Mexico native, kept the tribute upbeat, injecting anecdotes of the Senator’s 36-years in the U.S. Senate.  The presentations were heartfelt and humorous, ranging from a commentary by Senator Jeff Bingaman to former Domenici staffers, singing “God Bless Domenici.”  The afternoon celebration culminated in the Senator addressing the crowd and thanking everyone for their support and work in creating a memorable event.

“The eagerness and support of the community only highlighted what a great leader Senator Domenici is,” commented Sherman McCorkle, Event Chair and New Mexico First Board Member.

“We were honored to organize this special event for one of our founders. The outpouring of support from the community and sponsor made for fantastic tribute for a fantastic man,” commented Heather Balas, President of New Mexico First.
