Registration Now Open for Regional Town Halls on Youth

ALBUQUERQUE, NM— New Mexico First, a statewide public policy organization, announced that its 2010 town halls will address the issue of raising youth aspirations. Four town halls will be held throughout the state. The first will take place in Roswell, May 5-6.  Subsequent events will be held in Las Cruces, May 12-13; Las Vegas, May 19-20; and Albuquerque, June 10-11.

“All young people need to know they can achieve something important in life,” said Heather Balas, New Mexico First’s President. “These town halls are about lighting that spark. Parents, teachers, pastors, and businesspeople will all come together with teens to identify ways to ensure that every young person can set and achieve high goals.”

The town halls, titled Raising the Aspirations of New Mexico Youth, will recognize that the next generation will need their education more than ever, with high-level thinking, science, reading, math, and technology skills required in almost every field. Each of the four town halls will feature different speakers, including:

  • Lt. Governor Diane Denish (invited)
  • Jami Grindatto, Intel
  • Michael DeWitte, Sandia National Laboratories
  • Gregory Webb, NM Commission for Community Volunteerism
